You may call it competition and you may not be far from the truth. The gist in the air currently is that the reknown comedian actor, Saka, who has in the past being known to be an Etisalat Ambassador has recently ported to MTN.

Nigerian movie actors are actually among the best paid contractors working for the GSM companies. They tend to get offered mouthwatering contracts that require them to sign up as partners in promoting the GSM brand.

Big GSM companies that have been know to work with Nollywood actors include MTN, Glo and Etisalat.

Etisalat Nigeria had for quite sometime being working the Nollywood comedian Saka in promoting their brand and I guess they also gave him a special gsm number to stay with their network. Recently however, almost as soon as the Number porting system took off, Saka was already seen in tv ads fronting for a competing brand named MTN.

The video is a sort of music video telling his audience that he has ported to MTN. Say whaat? If he ported to MTN that means he practically used his same Etisalat number to port to a new network.

One thing that calls to mind is if he no long has any relationship with his former brand Etisalat. Is his contract already expired and not renewed? Did MTN Nigeria offer Saka a bigger pay than what he got from Etisalat?

I guess this may have been one of the reasons why GSM companies in the past were not too keen to choosing celebrities as their ambassadors since they may not be able to keep them in their brand and safe from the hands of poachers.

For Saka to have ported to MTN from Etisalat, it probablyh means he took his Etisalat number with him, requested for the porting service to MTN and now remains connected to MTN for at least 90days. I won't be surprised if he ports back after 90days telling us that he was unsatisfied with his porting.

Well, this is the first celebrity porting that makes news and I'm sure we've not yet heard the last of it. I'm guessing that in the near future, we may be seeing more ads of other gsm ambassadors porting to rival networks and I'm guessing Globacom, which already has a lot of celebrities as her ambassadors already in her kitty may be the main target of celebrity poaching and porting by competitors.
