MTN's latest internet service in Nigeria called Hynet is really a great service worth of mentioning on this site. Hynet is nothing less than broadband speed internet service and this allows you to access the web at a much faster rate than most other services.

2 great things I know about MTN Hynet are:
- It allows you to keep downloading and downloading without a data limit
- You can share internet service with your family and friends at the same time. So no queues.

MTN Hynet Hardware
MTN's Hynet hardware consists of the following:
- A Fixed Modem (Called CPE)with inbuilt wifi
- An AC adaptor
- A network cable

Getting connected to MTN Hynet service
All you need to do is to walk to any close MTN office and apply for the service. You would need to pay a basic sum of N10,000 for the modem and then subscribe to a plan of your choice either based on time plans. You will be given the hardware and two passwords which will be for wireless and your MTN Hynet online account(located at

How to connect your computer to MTN Hynet service
Assuming you've already subscribe and have the installations already configured on the modem and passwords given to you, you can connect the the internet service in either of 2 ways:

1. Wireless connection (WiFi)
2. Network cable

To connect using the wireless connection, all you need to do is to make sure that your system is capable of detecting wifi signals, ensure that the detectors are on and then try to log on to Hynet when you see the signal. Enter the password given to you and you will be immediately connected.

To connect using the network cable, just plug it into the port of your system and it would be immediately connected.

How fast is MTN Hynet?
Well really fast. Have you ever watched Youtube videos without buffering on a first load? Although there are at times when it seems to be slow, it is really fast when there is a good signal and you can make it faster by using an external antennae which is located on a higher altitude.

Any negatives or demerits?
One thing that doesn't look too good for the Hynet service is that you can't use it when there is no power. I mean, it doesn't come with a back up battery and it needs a constant supply of ac current to work. So in that case, a usb modem seems to work better. Another thing is that it is not really portable as usb modems are as it is more designed for home or office use and not for outdoor or mobile use. You may only use it for outdoor if you are on a wireless signal and not 10 metres far off. For the power issues, you may also support it with a back up ups battery.
